Splurge vs steal: Handbag skin essentials

As you go about your day, your skin can succumb to the elements, whether it be air conditioning and heating that dries out your skin, or the harmful rays of the sun. This can leave your skin looking a little (or a lot!) blah come 3pm. A simple way to protect your skin from these effects is with some everyday skin care essentials. Whether you love to splurge on beauty products or are keen for a good steal, these are our top picks of the essentials you need at your desk or in your handbag for clean, hydrated and glowing skin.
Splurge: Ultraceuticals SunActive SPF50+ Face Cream, $49
Give your skin the max protection from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays for hours on end. As well as containing SPF 50 sun protection, this formula features antioxidants to help shield your skin from damaging free radicals.
Steal: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Lotion SPF30, $16.99
On your next trip to the supermarket, pop this protecting beauty into your trolley. It boasts SPF 30 sun protection, a smooth, oil-free formula so it won’t leave you with a greasy sheen, and best of all, it’s easy on the wallet. Win!

Natio do a great, affordable 50+ sunscreen. Best thing is it doesn't smell like sunscreen.

I tend to mix up my brands, and have a combination of splurge and save products in my bathroom at any given time

The MAC wipes are really good for removing makeup quickly and easily, if not a bit harsh on the skin (but most wipes are I find, even the "sensitive skin" ones). Also love the neutrogena sunscreen.

These days I purchase what works best for my skin. I have had some very expensive products, and some that were straight off the supermarket shelves on special. The important thing is that it works for you - and does what it claims to do.

I guess it depends on what I'm buying. For lip balm I don't see the reason to spend too much

I want/tend to splurge more, when I feel like it, and then I remember to not "steal" so that I can save more to splurge later. It's a vicious cycle of sorts!!!

I like a splurge but love a bargain even more, find me something that works just as well for half the price and no big name brand or customer loyalty is going to swing my vote

I like a splurge, but I hate spending just for the sake of spending. If a budget beauty buy works, I'm happy to use it and save my money to splurge on something else. I've tried many enhanced facial mists, but often what they're "enhanced" with stings my eyes, so a can of Avene Thermal Water (which would still be considered a splurge for many, but it's so useful that to me it's a steal), is my go-to 'steal' facial mist.

I'm more of a saver than a splurger. I've tried the Swisse Kakadu Plum Brightening Serum, it's pretty good!
