3 women tell all about the ageing process
When it comes to the ageing process, bh beauties tend to have a pretty good head on their shoulders.
You only have to look at how real women feel about ageing to realise that there are plenty of perks in the pipeline – and many of us can’t wait to capitalise on them!

That being said, getting older can still seem a bit daunting for some – myself included (and I’m only 26!). So, I reached out to three mature women (who I consider role models) to pick their brains on the topic: health expert and founder of Get Lean, Dr Joanna McMillan; founder of endota spa, Melanie Gleeson; and makeup artist and Max Factor ambassador, Liz Kelsh.
Below, they share their experiences of getting older and embracing ageing, as well as their expectations for the future (which, suffice to say, look very bright!)…
DR JOANNA MCMILLAN – health expert and founder of Get Lean
How old are you?
What do you enjoy most about getting older?
I worry less about other people and I am more comfortable in my own skin. My career has progressed as well, and I feel as if the years of experience and knowledge I have gained show in my work. In fact, my work has never been more interesting! I am more confident and know I can’t please everyone.
Has ageing been what you thought it would be? Has anything surprised you?
I feel the same inside, I’m the same person. Time passes more quickly though. I’m still waiting for that moment where I catch my reflection in a shop window and see an old lady staring back at me!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Putting my two children through high school. I’ve taken some risks with my career to push my business. Ideally I would like to still be working in another 20 years. Then, when I get to my 60s and 70s, I would love to be able to travel more often. My parents live in Scotland so it would be nice to see more of them.
What is your one piece of advice for young women who are worried about ageing?
I think older women actually need to stand up and be better role models, and show that we can age gracefully without being so concerned about aesthetics. Young girls are beating themselves up worrying about grey hairs, when actually it’s a privilege for us to grow older and live long, healthy lives. Focus on health, wellness and vitality and eating well. The wrinkles are a sign of a life well-lived!
How has your health and fitness routine changed as you’ve gotten older?
My fitness routine has definitely changed. I used to teach 14 exercise classes a week, but now I focus more on lots of long walks and yoga. Because of this I have a lighter diet and also try to eat more veggies. I focus on getting that mind-body balance. A healthy lifestyle is always a work in progress!
What's your all-time favourite beauty product?
I am careful about what I put on my skin and prefer natural beauty products. I love Lucas Papaw Ointment ($6.60, amcal.com.au), 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream ($44.95, nourishedlife.com.au) and Nude by Nature BB 5-in-1 Miracle Cream! I am also a big believer in SPF – I wear SunSense Daily Face SPF 50+ every day.
