Beauty School how-to: false lashes

Super-sultry fluttering lashes are only a few falsies away. And the best news is you don't need to be a professional make-up artist to apply them with precision.
So get yourself a set and get ready to create your best bedroom eyes yet with our extremely useful (if we do say so ourselves!) guide to fool-proof false lash application.
You’ll need:
- Tweezers (Try: Davinci Whisker Tweezers)
- Black eye liner
- False lashes (individual or strips)
- Lash glue (usually comes included with the lashes)
- Mascara
- Lash curler (Try: Manicare Eyelash Curler)
- Nail scissors
Individual lashes (Try: Eylure Individual Lashes)
1.) Define your upper lash line with a sweep of black eye liner. The line doesn’t have to be very thick – it’s just in place to hide any bare skin between your falsies and the base of your natural lashes in the event that your application isn’t 100 per cent perfect (which it very well may not be so don’t worry!)
2.) Apply the rest of your eye make-up as usual, only this time be sure to curl your lashes before applying your mascara so that they mimic the slight curve in the falsies.
3.) Once your peepers are complete, use your tweezers to gently lift one lash from the box and dip the end into the glue. Don’t worry if the glue looks white, it will dry clear.
(Note from bh: You can apply as many or as few individual lashes as you like – opt for two or three in the outer corners for a sultry doe-eyed effect, or five or six placed all the way along your lash line for a fuller flutter. Either way it’s best to work from the inner corner of your eye outwards so that you don’t knock or move them as you go.)
4.) Facing the mirror, cast your eyes downward and, one at a time, carefully place the falsie as close to your natural lash line as possible. Once it’s made contact with your skin, hold it in place for a few seconds to allow it to set before releasing it from the tweezers.
5.) Repeat as necessary. When your new lashes are all in place you may want to touch up your mascara – just be sure to use a light hand so the force of the wand doesn’t pull them off!
Full lashes (Try: M.A.C 2 Lash)
1.) Follow steps one through two from above. Hold the lash strip against your natural lash line to make sure it’s the right length. If it’s too long you can use a nail scissors to trim it down slightly.
2.) Once you’ve got your length down pat, pick your lashes up and use a toothpick to spread a small amount of glue along the base of your falsies.
3.) Using your fingers, and working from the inner corner of your eye outwards, carefully press your falsies along your natural lash line. Hold in place for a minute and release.

This was wonderful! I wasn't too sure how to apply falsies, but this has given me every reason to use them.

Thanks for the wonderful tips. I bought an ardell false lash starter kit, but haven't felt confident enough to try applying falsies, so have saved the tips in a word document to reference when I'm game enough to do so

I love fake eyelashes they can totally transform your eyes, but I always manage to screw them up!! A good tip is to allow the glue to dry a little so it becomes tacky, and it makes it easier to stick the lashes on. I'll try these tips though :)

I am not exactly scared to sport false lashes more so just not really worried about it and it is not something that I could be bothered doing, I have come this far without them, lol.

my tip is (esp for smaller eyes) to trim the lash bad from the inner corners as those lashes are shorter and not to place them too close to the inner and outer corner of the eyes because its irritating and the lashes may begin to fall off, theres nothing attractive with a girls eyelashes hanging down her face

I love false lashes! I love the thickness it creates and flutter too! lol My only concern is that I hope it's secure enough not to be out of place for a long period of time! Even if there's enough glue used!

Ooh I love false eye lashes! I had never worn them before, but had to for the first time last year for a dance I was in. Now I love them, they make my eyes look bigger and really bring out the green colour, because the eye lashes are so dark! My one fool proof tip is don't use too much glue, and then sleep with the eye lashes on, otherwise you will find it very hard to open your eyes in the morning when you wake up! Lol, I learned this from experience!

Thank you so much Deb, I've been wanting to use Falsh eyelashes for ages now, I've got all the products but needed to work up the courage to just do it. You've inspired me to pull them out of the cupboard and give them ago. They look so amazing!

Morning beauties! Ok, so for those of you who are a little scared to sport false lashes just remember you can start slowly - you don't need to go to Lady Gaga lengths straight away (or ever for that matter!) I first started by applying two individual lashes to the outer corner of each of my eyes. It just gave a more doe-eyed effect and no-one noticed that they were fake. Give that a go and then once you're confident with that you can work up to wearing five or six individuals or even a full strip. Happy fluttering! xDeb
