Could this solve all our wet nail struggles?

We all know the total agony of getting a perfect manicure only to smudge one crucial finger right before it’s had a chance to dry.
But now a new UK invention could end our wet nail struggles. Introducing ‘Helmies’ – aka reusable helmets for your nails.
You may think they sound ridiculous, but hear me out. These bad boys could put an end to messed up manis – for good.
Made from a light silicone gel, Helmies work by cushioning the nails without affecting the polish.
They also have an open underside, meaning you can use your phone (hurrah), fish things out of your handbag and do pretty much anything else while wearing them.
They do look a bit silly on, but no more so than those weird toe-dividers and giant foam thongs nail technicians give you for a pedi.
According to cosmopolitanuk.com, getting these bad boys on requires a little patience, especially when it comes to the 10th finger.
But a stellar DIY mani also takes time, so sealing it with this final step is still probably worthwhile.
Plus, at £7.99 (roughly $15 AUD, minus the shipping fee), they're pretty affordable.
DIY gel manis are still an ideal smudge-free option, but for the girl who likes to chop and change colours, Helmies could be just the ticket.
You can find out more about them at helmiesbeauty.com.
Do you struggle with smudged nail polish? Would you use ‘Helmies’, or do they sound a bit too fiddly?

These look utterly ridiculous, but I'd be open to the idea. Always accidentally smudging my nails before they're dry is probably the biggest deterrent from doing them, for me.

These look like a cool idea, but I'd probably smudge my polish just trying to put them on

But wouldn't you smudge your nails putting them on?

I would so use Helmies. I'm always smudging my nail polish, especially at the last minute.

Awesome idea. I suspect I could still manage to do something stupid even with them on that would wreck the polish, like squash a finger end in something. Would like to try them out and see how good they really are. :-)

Truth be told, a run in cold water is what really helps set my nails fast.

These seem a bit gimicky to me, though I have ruined many maincures through smudging!

Interesting idea. I hate smudging newly done nails with a passion! I am still dubious of these "helmets" though as I still think it will smudge because they will be in contact with the nail. Maybe the solution is to have mini finger "cones" like what they make dogs wear after a vet visit or perhaps finger "bubbles" like toothbrush protectors xD

I'd be tempted to try these, but not enough to order them from overseas. Perhaps if I saw them in Australia, I would buy them.

I think they sound like more trouble than they are worth. I've seen other versions on YouTube and they always smudge the nails.

I am so hopeless with nails , but only one the one hand . I can't use my left hand to put nail polish on my right hand . The polish is not as smooth and smudges all the time . I can't imagine how anyone can have perfect nails doing it on their own lol

Yes I can struggle when I paint my own nails. The Helmies are such a great product. I will have to get my mum some.

Etude House make a product with a similar concept and they only cost a few dollar. They are a kind of clip thing that has a bit of plastic that floats above the nail.

When I smudge my nails, I take it all off and decide that 'it's not a nail polish day'. I don't often get a chance to wear nail polish anyway because my nails have to be kept clean, polish-free and short all the time in my profession.

But what about when you put them on? Wouldn't you ruin your nails trying to slot them in place?

Sounds like a lot of trouble and expense - and they'd look quite strange on!

I do one coat and if I have time do a second coat before bed, that seems to work very well

Sounds way too fiddly for me. Think I'll stick to my quick drying top coat & setting the colour to dry under running cool water.
