I would love your opinions please!!
Hi everyone, I know I've been gone a while but I have been super busy with a few projects at the moment and I was hoping to get some valuable insight from all you lovely BHers.
I'm in the process of building a brand and I was hoping you could all help me identify some key areas to focus on. Mainly, I'm looking to pinpoint any gaps in the market that you feel might exist. The kinds of questions I'm looking to answer are things like:
- Do you ever wish there was a specific product out there for you but you haven't yet been able to find it?
- For the lovely mums and mums-to-be, how easy was it to find pregnancy safe products? Do you wish it had been more simple getting information or that there was a specific pregnancy-safe brand?
- For those of you in your teens, or those with children in this age range, what do you look for in the products you use, or purchase for your children? Again, do you wish there was a product out there that you just haven't been able to find?
I'm trying to build up from my own personal experience and see if there are others out there that felt the same way I did, both when I was younger and during pregnancy. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated and certainly not forgotten if all goes well xx

Baby Soft Skin
This product exceeded my expectations massively. The texture of the product is really nice light and no smell whatsoever.
Not worth it
I got this in a Christmas kit in the shade Lean in. I’m not sure if the problem is the shade or the gloss itself but I don’t think it’s a product to use on its own.
Super glittery and not very lasting
I got this product in the shade 872 Glit/Doré. I find that the colour looks nice on first application but as soon as you blend it it fades and you’re just left with a bunch of glitter in your eye.

Just bumping this so it can be seen! Hi everyone!!
So I'm not going to sound like a great mum .:
I did'nt look for or think about pregnancy-safe brands (the last time I was pregnant was 16 years ago) maybe it's just me, but I did'nt hear much about that sort of thing back then. I avoided alcohol and things like that but otherwise it was'nt important to me.
As the Mum of teenagers I look for products that are'nt too expensive. If their is a product that will make them speak more politely to me then let me know LOL.
Maybe you could be more specific ? what sort of products are we talking about here?
Thanks for the reply!
I'm looking at mainly skincare at this stage, scouring dermatology journals to find ingredients with laboratory proven results. But none of that will matter if I don't identify what people are actually looking for.
So far, all I've managed to pinpoint is that teenagers like instagrammable products (think GlamGlow masks!). But in terms of the products themselves, I'm still trying to get a feel for any potential gaps in the market.
I don't think my daughter instagrams skincare products , maybe she is in the minority?. . Witchhazel is a ingredient she has been looking for, it does'nt seem to be in a lot of products, even for oily skin. she had to find it on the bottom shelf at Coles.
Lisa359 For your Daughter you can find Witchhazel at most pharmacies they seem to carry it more than Supermarkets.
Sorry to butt in but don't let a kid use witch hazel...the coles brand, in fact, most brands have a lot of alcohol in them...you have to look for specific alcohol free witch hazel...and yes there is a gap in the market for alcohol free WH I have to get mine from Korean brands or Amazon USA...as it is good for skin...just saying teens should avoid alcohol in products...we all should...we think it dries out spots but in the long run will make skin oilier...
I did'nt know Coles made it. The brand she bought is Dickensons, I've warned her not to use it 'neat' on her skin. But I do think it's underutilized in skincare products which is why I mentioned it.
Thanks Lisa, I'm definitely trying to steer clear of alcohol in general. I'll take it on board and see if I can come up with something with witch hazel that is suitable for younger skin.
annette81 What Age Range were you looking at for your brand? Just for Younger People in their twenties and thirties?
Or are your products also designed for an older age group of people?
Ideally I'm looking to create a product for all ages, so a few key actives but nothing super strong that would be more for older skin. Just a great all-rounder to start with and once I'm happy with the formulation, I'll branch out from there.
Sounds really great good on You annette81 may you have all the Success for your new product.
Thanks so much! It means a lot to me to have your support and well wishes!
I wasn’t too concerned with skincare products being pregnancy safe to be honest, I stuck with what worked for my skin. For me personally not being pregnancy safe wouldn’t stop me purchasing if I like/love the product.
What I feel is missing in the market (I’m late 30’s) is anti ageing products for sensitive combination skin. A lot of what is out there is either sensitive OR anti ageing. I need something that will attack my forehead lines and wrinkles that keeps it matte, but keeps the rest of my face hydrated and is fragrance free and good with sensitive skin.
Great feedback! Thanks, I'll definitely keep that in mind!
For me I wish there was a product that I could put on my face at night and i would wake up without rosacea. That would be the product i wish was available but doesnt exist.
When I was pregnant people were not concerned about products we put on our skin. All my kids are adults now.
When my kids were teens I found it better to put them on to products for sensitive skin rather then acne or pimple prone skin products as I think they are just too harsh for teenage skin.
A friend of mine with a teenage boy is often saying she finds that no matter what deodorant he uses he stinks. I gave him some Dude808 products and they worked wonders for him so as far as thats concerned they seem to have great products for teenage boys.
Thanks MeeDee, I've definitely heard the rosacea feedback before so it's something I'm looking into!
Id love to hear if you discover something to help. Good lucky annette
I am suffering from a severe flare up of perioral dermatitis right now. It was triggered by previous corticosteroid prescription use for eczema/rosacea. I would love a daily face moisturiser that is without sunscreen, parabens, fragrance, ect, that might contain coconut oil, lavender and zinc for skin repair and anti-redness that might prevent future flare ups from occurring. So many day creams contain sunscreens which are another trigger for my skin condition so I end up wearing a too heavy night cream during the day which is greasy under my make up.
Hope that helps? :-)
That's awesome feedback! Thanks so much!
Well I have a 8 year old who is starting to get little black heads on her nose and also has little patches of dry skin on her face I assume from swimming as she is in squads 3 times a week so must be the chlorine.
I don't know what to do or what to use because she is so young I don't want to damage her skin and get it used to being dependant on skincare products but at the same time I don't want them getting worse or enlarging her pores either at such a young age which she will have for the rest of her life.
I would love a range that is gentle and effective for children and I just can't seem to find any products that are suitable for children not just "teens".
Acne and changes in teenage years are different and skin to younger children so that is my thing at the moment!
ThisIsMe, my BIL who is a derm uses cetaphil or QV products on his kids when they have dry skin. In terms of prevention you could try applying a balm-type product to her face prior to her swimming? Essentially creating a barrier between her skin and the chlorine?
Hmm never thought of the balm- thanks for that! I'll have to look into...
I use dermaveen body wash & cream on them but not their face they only wash it with water and occasionally I give them one of my scrubs to use every so often.
Any ideas on what to do for the black heads at that age!??
Use a good BHA face wash...Dr Dray on youtube recs a good one Neutrogena OIL FREE I think a few times a week or a leave-on BHA a gentle one a few nights a week...cosRx the Korean brand make a good one First and foremost a kids face should be clean...any mild face cleanser would be a help...they get blackheads from not washing and a build-up of oil...but then again face should not be stripped of oil...just clean.
Yes! This is definitely something I have had in mind for a while, based on my own personal experience! Thanks for the feedback!
Just saw this post as I have been away a few days.
My daughter is currently pregnant with 3rd child and is so pedantic about what she uses for make up, skincare, hair care and her criteria is that it is as natural as possible without chemicals, especially as she is concerned they will seep into the skin and further into the bloodstream and cause harm. While I was pregnant I just didn't use anything really in way of skincare and just whatever shampoo and conditioner but they were all then made in Australia.
My granddaughter does suffer outbreaks on her face, being a teenager but again, not sure what is best. I recommended Almond Oil as I have seen excellent results in helping blemishes and the ravages caused, clear up using this.
For me: I need something that can be applied on the eye lid to help reduce the wrinkles, without irritating the eyes. Almost everything irritates my eyes. I also need something to reduce the bags under the eyes when overindulging. I did swipe some cucumber slices from the buffet while away as they do certainly help. Though I did forget about using the tea bags. Don't know if there is something out there using both cucumber and tea bags for tired eyes!
