Can everyone share any skin care or makeup dupes they have heard of, know of, used or seen on the net.
I know of a few but would like ppl to share more... And help with cutting the budget!!!
Dupes for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
I have 2 of the ambient powders and apparently there are 2 dupes, but I could only get hold of one as the other isn't released here yet. First dupe is the Wet N Wild ColorIcon Bronzer in shade Reserve Your Cabana. It's not a bronzer it's a a barely coloured powder with a bit of a glimmer which is what the ambient powders do.
The other dupe is the Essence Highlighter in shade nude - but so far the Nude range from Essence hasn't been released here yet.
The Wet N Wild is a slightly heavier powder than the ambient but the look on the skin is exactly the same. They both apply really well with a beauty blender over a brush. I'd say the Wet N Wild closely resembles the Diffused Light and Luminous Light as it has a slight colour to it like they do.
Ambient Light is $67 at Mecca and Wet N Wild is around $8-10 and I got it online from USA for $12.55 including postage!
Revlon's Matte Balm in Unapologetic is a dead on dupe for MAC's Party Parrot (I know this because I own both - doh!).
BOBBI BROWN VITAMIN ENRICHED FACE BASE vs MEMEME SEVENTH HEAVEN MOISTURISING FACE BASE & PRIMER
Neither of these I've used but looked into purchasing but both had ingredients that my skin pitches a fit with. But for everyone else they are pretty similar. The Bobbi Brown is $85 and the Mememe is UK brand but around $25 aud.
This is Bobbi Brown ingredients:
This is the MeMeMe:
I have really wanted to try the Bobbi Brown vitamin cream_ I've heard such great things about it.
The etude foundation- korean- is said to be the best and most closest to the double wear foundation, some have even said its better
I've used both and prefer the EL because I find it dries down better and doesn't need powder, sticks on the skin like pain and doesn't transfer. The EH does transfer and doesn't set down as well as the EL. The EH is a little more drying over time, like it almost looks a little powdery as the day goes on. The EH also oxidizes, the EL doesn't change colour on my skin but the EH does go one shade darker.
This blog post is great, she goes into massive detail comparing everything:
Personally I rate the EL 10/10 and the EH 9/10, it's pretty darn good
Thank you for your very detailed and extensive response in regards to the foundation. I am definitely keeping this on my list to try! Thank you
I love EL double wear but it is so $$$. Is there much flashback in photos for the Etude House foundation?
Makeup Revolution is a UK brand who dupe pretty much every big brand, I ordered a few things and it should land early next week. Tati just released a vid about them which was not done in usual Tati style and was brief and only 3 products. She didn’t review any of their top palettes or products, not even the concealer.
Every YouTuber seems to love the concealer and it’s replaced Shape Tape for everybody. I got it so will compare. I got a couple highlighters, concealer, bronzer and several lip products.
I have the makeup revolution concealer, I have been using it for a few weeks. It's high coverage, lasts and blends well. I can't compare to tarte as I have not used.
I still really want to try that concealer, RJ. Only a handful of other concealers to get through first, lol
Duality, I will be looking forward to hearing how you go with the MR products, I have a lot of their eye shadow palettes, some blushes, lipsticks and a highlighter. It can be hit or miss, but I've found more products I like rather than hate.
For anyone that is a fan of Tati's reviews, here is her review for some Makeup Revolution products:
I like tati and I watched this video, but it was a bit disappointing to be honest.
I think that she didn't really discuss the range properly due to her concerns they were coping others.
In Australia I believe that designer brands copies everyone else too. All there products are dupes especially of high end.
Tarte Shape Tape vs Makeup Revolution Concealer
I've compared both and for me personally the MR is better for a few reasons. One it is a little more creamy and hydrating and doesn't crease up or bunch. Shape Tape tends to set down very dry and matte, and if you aren't oily then it does look a little papery and dry. Shape Tape still has better coverage though, it conceals 100% with only a small amount. As for price it isn't such a big difference with the MR only slightly cheaper (as it is a much smaller tube) but for me this is a win because I throw my eye products out after 3 months and never finished a tube of Shape Tape. I like the colouring better of the MR, Shape Tape was always a bit too yellow or too beige, I never got that perfect match.
Thanks so much for the comparison of the 2 concealers, Duality. When I'm in need of concealer, I'll be ordering the MR one.
Well didn’t think it’s possible but not only have I found a true dupe for ESTÉE LAUDER Double Wear and it’s actually even better! TARTE Shape Tape Matte Foundation! I’m comparing EL Ivory Nude vs Shape Tape Light Sand. Why STM?
Both don’t need powder at all and both last same time on skin.
Colour and undertone big issue I’ll discuss that with swatch in next post.
I have had several trial sized STM so I got a good idea of shade but fair warning it runs really light and you need to try first. Light sand is a perfect true neutral, DW nude ivory is supposed to be a neutral but it pulls really warm, see swatch DW is top shade and STM is bottom, so close to my skin tone.
DW shade Porcelain is not available here in Aus so I make do with Ivory Nude and I can wear a warmer foundation but prefer neutral. Now what to do with my 2 new bottles of DW lol
Thank you for the detailed information duality.
I wasn't interested in the shape tape initially, now I am. Opps.
Tatcha water cream $99 vs Simple water boost night cream $13
I found a dupe for the hair supplements viviscal.
Hairdressers formula. It is around $23-33 depending on where you buy it for thirty day supply. The other one is $70.
It is an Australian formula.

The vivscial formula contains very similar ingredients including the shark cartilage.the major difference I could find at this stage is the Apple extract.
Thank you ray_jay for a detailed dupe recipe.
Thanks for sharing, RJ. I haven't heard of this brand, is it available in store?
@ray_jay I noticed in another thread that you were lucky enough to trial the vivscial and were happy with the results. Have you used the hairdressers formula? And if so, how does it compare? TIA xo
Indie the hairdressers formula is available at priceline & some chemists. Its also the chemist on their direct website.
ebay has it for 24
its once a day not twice like the other one too.
Do you miss Summer when your lips are chapped from cold winds and winters blustery conditions?
I swear by this product 100%! While at my cousins house, I left my nappy bag in the car and had to change my son so she offered me her products and nappies to use.
I received this as a present for Christmas and I was excited to try it! I love almond milk and I’d heard many good things about it! I was excited but so was my toddler who got ahold of it.
