i think smoking is disgusting not only does it harm your health and people around you but it discolours your fingers and creates wrinkles around your mouth
Sometimes its not as easy as just suddenly quitting, its an addiction not just a habit.
Yes I agree with missmeow it is an addiction and for some people battle trying to give it up for years and can't. I gave up 7 years ago but before that I smoked for two years because I quit before that for 3 years as someone gave me a smoke and stupid me thought it would be okay to have just one smoke. All it takes is one cigarette. My doctor says it is like giving up heroin you can't just have one. I don't believe giving up is as hard as giving up heroin at all but tobacco smoking is a drug hon and my husband started smoking when he was 12 and has tried many times to give up including recently and it changed him as a person every time I hate having to go through it with him. I have given up and went cold turkey hubby on the other hand has tried medication, patches and cold turkey nothing works for him and when he tries to stop the side effects is just horrible. My lungs collapsed last year which had nothing to do with smoking but now have bad lungs and I had an attack a couple of weeks ago just by inhaling it from his clothes when he went to kiss me good night. So smoking is terrible Stargirl94 and best not to start smoking but once you do it's hard to give up. So you will be right as long as you never smoke but it's hard to give up which my husband has a doctor who hasn't smoked a day in his life and makes degrading statements to him about him not being able to give up which makes it worse. It does give people yellow fingers but can be cleaned and my husband does that. You just by a special soap. I do agree it smells yucky and my husband has to smoke outside because of my health and basically because of your words it really smells yucky. If people could just quit like that they would so it musn't be that easy and trust me hon it's not.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend and have a great day!
I don't smoke and know that it is an addiction and not something that you can give up easily. I'm glad more and more public places are banning smoking as there is nothing worse than going somewhere and choking on toxic smoke fumes.
my parents were both a pack a day smokers which put my sister and i at a really high risk of being smokers too (so they say). fortunately for us it took just one heartbreaking comment from our well meaning nanna (who we loooooved more than anyone in the world).
mum and dad had just given up for about 1month when we went to see nanna. she hugged us both and with tears in her eyes she said, 'oh my goodness, that is the first time i've ever hugged you girls and you don't smell of cigarette smoke'. WHAT???????????????????????
at the ripe old age of 4 and sis 6 we decided that it was the most disgusting thing in the world and vowed never to take it up. thank goodness for nanna's.
my big question is ( and i pretty much know the basic answer ), if smoking is soooooooooooooooo addictive (it is) and is soooooooooooo bad for your health (it is) and places so much pressure on the medical system (it does), then why on earth is it still legal?
Hhhhmmmmmmm, 2 words and one entity come to mind, TAX MAN!
B.O I agree totally and Princess75 so true, Taxman- This has frustrated me for years.... I really don't like smoking for everything that it does: health, finances, relationships etc. I have someone near and dear to me that i wish would quit but in truth it's like Flutter's post, it is an addiction that is really hard for some to quit and in doing so the person's moods can drastically change along the way. Theres no quick fix or easy cure, I guess the best advice is Don't start and you won't have to stop!
I totally agree B O about the smoking in private areas in the public. I have found though if I need to sit down and someone is smoking they will move away from me so as not to put smoke on me and I said it's okay you can sit down they say no I don't want to be blowing smoke on you. Which is real nice of them. I go out to a regular place and it feels like being back in the country.
My husband smokes outside and I agree with goddessmagick about having someone dear to them wanting them to give up for their health and for money and agree about the relationship part he sometimes can't even kiss me goodnight and tuck me in lol we call it, it was our regular thing and sometimes can't do it if there is to much smoke on him but I am glad to know I am not the only one who has to deal with the persons character changing while they try to give up. It gets to the point when he says hes going to try again I say inside myself oh no not again, I can't. When I gave up it didn't change my character but it still was hard but I saw myself giving up and knew I could do it. I know it sounds terrible especially when you don't want them smoking. You really have to see yourself giving up before you try and quit.
As far as making smoking illegal I think alcohol is more of a deadlier drug and then the government would have to make it all illegal they would have to ban alcohol too. I think why stop advertising on smoking because it's considered bad for your health but it's okay to advertise bundy and all them other alcoholic drinks right after a drink safety ad.
Thanks for starting this interesting topic Stargirl94.
Thanks for sharing your story with us. It was interesting and inspiring to those who may be struggling to give up.
I hope your lungs are back on track (that happened to my stepdad twice when I was younger it was really scary).
Dear Pink Diva MUA,
thank-you hon you do sort of let yourself be vulnerable when you share a part of your life. I so far touch wood having smoked in close to 8 years now but hubby just can't seem to beat that battle. Yes my lungs collapsed and my organs shut down during a pancreatic attack so I won't be competiting in the olympics he he. But since this new treatment I am a new woman and the fact that I have never drunk my odds are good now so watch out next olympics, olympics of lip gloss more like it. I am sorry to hear about your step father and it must have been scarey for you hon. Is he okay now?
Have a great day and take good care of yourself.
there's nothing like the country fresh air flutter :) Our famiily goes camping once a year to the Grampians and I just love taking in all the fresh air. You don't realise how polluted the air is until you get back home to the suburbs! Our house is a no smoke zone! Thankfully my husband doesn't smoke but if any friends and family come to visit us they can smoke outside.
Dear Beauty Obsession,
Your are so right I wish I could go and live back in the country but would have to travel here for all my appointments so wouldn't be able to live back there plus hubby doesn't want to leave but I sure miss the country. You just can't beat the country life can you? It's just a different way of living.
Have a great day!!
Dear Beauty Obsession,
oh it's been ages since I last left a post to you. Ooooooooops I can't help myself I have such a bad sense of humour. I forgot to say it's a good set up you have there, my husband has to remind his father and my nephew to not smoke inside the house. He has told all his friends and family it's a no smoke house and he totally doesn't mine he says it's nothing worse then being in a house full of smoke. I hate having a shower all dolled up go to my father in laws and coming out smelling like I work in a chimney factory, it's terrible all his curtains and walls are yellow and it sticks to my clothes.
Again have a great day!!!!
I really dislike smoking. I understand it's really difficult to quit, it's a terrible addiction - but what I don't understand is why it seems like more and more people are smoking every day. Don't these people listen to the warnings? I can understand more if you've been a heavy smoker for many years, but if you've just started or are thinking about starting, there's just no excuse.
I'm not one of those people who goes around telling people to stop smoking, but I agree with you Princess75 - it's insane that it is still legal.
I am glad that it is illegal to smoke in so many places these days - due to previous respiratory issues, I tend to choke very quickly on the slightest whiff of smoke (any kind, not just cigarettes). I remember back when smoking was allowed on planes - I used to fly a lot, long trips, and I always got sick - not because of the turbulence, because of the nasty smoke everywhere. It was quite unpleasant! I was so glad when they banned smoking!
i get really frustrated though that no one seems to be enforcing the rule of (not sure exact distance) 5 metres from the entrance of a building.
at our local Westfields there are lots of restaurants outside, now the pub is next to the italian and the smoking area for the pub is out the front right next to the tables of the Italian, there is a rope barrier that's it. needless to say, we don't eat at that italian place.
also Westfields are really slack with enforcing it themselves. i was waiting for hubby to pick us up, bub in arms, waiting at the seats designated for, well waiting, and up walks 3 people, light up, stand leaning on the concrete pillar that has the 'NO SMOKING' sign right at the customer service door. I had to be the one to move, after giving them a gobful and telling them i felt sorry for them that it must be so hard to go through life and not be able to read. ar%^holes.
It is good to hear that smoking has now been banned from tram, bus stops.30 years ago mum told me that people would smoke in schools, work and public transport too.I have never smoked and always encourage my friends to please try and stop.Stargirl94 I agree with you the message is simple STOP.
i too thinks its horrible and a drain on our economy but its an addiction and addictions are hardn to quit, i ve never smoked and never will its awful my rents both smoked and it just escalated their money problems leading to fights etc. i think people should smoke it they want to but not around others who choose not to thats why i think these new laws are great it respects others choices to choose not to smoke
"Nobody smokes here anymore.."
******Haven't smoked, not having smoked in 8 years just picked up the mistake now sorry ladies, it should have read haven't smoked in 8 years but instead wrote having. yes am a non smoker, not a smoker. Excuse my writing I can mix up my words sometimes. I guess I am lucky Princess75 people let me sit down when they are sitting down and smoking and stand away from me like yesterday at the doctors and I said it is okay but like always they say no I don't want to blow smoke on you which is real lovely of them. If smokes are made illegal I believe so should alcohol. I also believe strongly even when I did smoke never to smoke near people or around non smokers and definately not children.
My bed awaits me.
I hope everyone else is well though.
Im not a smoker and think it is really disgusting! Not to mention what it does to your health!
But i do understand that it can be hard to quit as it is very addictive but i just wanted to say bravo to all you fantastic ladies who have given it a kick in the behind! Well done i know you body must be thanking you!
yes i am a smoker i agree with all of you its a disgusting habbit,i dont have the will power to quit hopefully one day soon........................any one who has quit take a big bow and congratulations its a tuff habbit to beat yet you did it well done guys.... love BLACKDIAMOND x x x
smoking is bad it costs heaps stinks and yadda yadda yaddda! i smoke i want to quit but i haven't done it yet! i'll keep tryin!
i understand that it may be hard and i think over the years there has been a decline in smokers since there is more of an awareness of its health hazards now - which is good. though i don't think the government is doing good enough in trying to discourage smokers [at least not with prices] and i hope the current government will.
i think they should introduce "smoking boxes" in public for people who want to smoke, that way the public don't have to deal with the second-hand smoke. sharing may be caring, but it's definitely not in this case!
and the other day, i witnessed such an horrible thing -- a couple was smoking IN their car which also had an TODDLER it in and even more so WITHOUT the windows down!! it's inexcusable! how selfish and ignorant.
I thought you could get fined for smoking in a car with children?
Not if there's no one there to issue the fine
That's the problem with so many laws - they're very difficult to enforce
I know this has nothing to do with the smoking issue but just wanted to say love the cat Loretta. Is that a Russian blue?
i still havnt tried to quit. love BLACKDIAMOND X X X
Flutter - thanks I love him too :) We think he is at least part Russian Blue (and part Rag Doll, he's SO floppy), but we don't know for sure as we rescued him from certain death from nasty people. He does look very RB though, so we think it's likely :)
This conditioner is by far one of my favourite.
I like that this shampoo provides cleansing of my hair without too much foam when washing.
I love this product . The smell is amazing good for cleansing the skin of built up dirt.
