Can upping your fibre intake make you feel better?
You’ve probably heard about fibre before. Like me, you probably know that it’s found in bread and is good for you – or so you’ve heard.
But do you actually know about the benefits of fibre? How it can improve the way you and your body actually feel? Nope? Neither did I. That was until I took the Metamucil 14-Day Challenge – and discovered first hand just how important fibre can be to your overall health and wellbeing.
Metamucil is a daily fibre supplement that contains no chemical stimulants, sugar or gluten. It works as a natural detox for your body that effectively helps to cleanse your insides of toxins and help you feel lighter and more active. That was the claim - and I was about to see whether or not it was true.
Come with me on the 14 day journey….
Day 1 – I chose to enjoy my first sachet after breakfast. I was instructed to mix the contents of the sachet with water, stir briskly and drink promptly. I was warned by an expert at a recent launch event for Metamucil that if not drunk swiftly, the liquid can begin to thicken in the glass, and is a good indication of what can happen inside you near the southern end of your body if you don’t consume enough water throughout the day to help carry the fibre supplement through your system. I don’t think I’ve ever consumed more water in one day. The orange flavour of the supplement wasn’t too bad either!
Day 5 – I’m five days into the Metamucil challenge and so far, I can honestly report that I’m feeling noticeably less bloated and a little lighter. I’ve been walking for an hour each morning which also helps to make me feel energized, but I’m so pleased to report that my insides feel less ‘sluggish’ and ‘heavy’ then they usually do.
Day 10 – 10 days in and my insides are seriously loving me. I’ve definitely becoming much more erm… regular - and that has assisted my normally bloated insides to feel lighter. I’m much more capable of achieving and maintaining those washboard abs like you see in the movies. Right Olivia – keep dreaming.
Day 14 – It’s the last day of my challenge, but not my last Metamucil. The way my stomach region feels is beyond an improvement. I had a pretty big lunch the other day – and while that much bread would normally leave me looking (and feeling) like I was a little bit pregnant, I didn’t experience the usual stomach swelling that I used to pass off as normal. I feel like I have more energy and a few people have even commented that I looked as though I’ve slimmed down. While this could be due to my daily walking and a new pair of skin-tight black jeggings – I’m sure the daily fibre consumption has something to do with it, too.
The final word
I had never, ever considered taking a fibre supplement before. in my head it was reserved for the elderly or those suffering with a specific deficiency. I never realized what a difference such a daily drink could make to my overall wellbeing and, equally importantly, the way I feel inside my own skin. The best part? Upping your Metamucil intake to one sachet three times a day can also help maintain your cholesterol levels at a healthy level. Yippee!
Do you take any supplements? Do you think taking fibre is important for your health?
