Sneaky ways summer damages your skin

That summer is a sneaky little thing, isn’t it?
It pulls you in with its long days and tempting beach weather and then leaves you branded by the sun’s harsh rays – even when you thought you were being careful to protect your skin.
So why is your skin so much more susceptible to damage during summer? UV levels rise during the summer months and, coupled with longer days and increased time outdoors, it means that the average Australian accumulates more exposure to UV, which in turn makes skin more susceptible to skin cancer, skin ageing and burning.
But it’s not just sun exposure from above that can damage your skin. When the sun’s rays hit a reflective surface like water, sand, or even the tiles around a swimming pool, they reflect back upwards, which means that your body is being hit with harmful UV rays from all angles. Add that to the skin-drying effects of salt water and chlorine, and your summer skin is at risk of looking and feeling anything but nourished and healthy.
In order to avoid damaged skin during summer, it’s important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will keep your skin protected from UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. NEUTROGENA® Beach Defence™ Sunscreen Lotion is a lightweight, water-resistant sunscreen that offers high SPF50 broad-spectrum protection with a deliciously summery fruity scent. It features HELIOPLEX® technology, which absorbs UVA and UVB rays and keeps them from penetrating your skin. It’s water-resistant formula (which is effective for up to four hours) makes it a great choice for the whole family and means you can stick to having more fun in the sun and worry less about skin damage. The ingredients in NEUTROGENA® Beach Defence™ also mean that your skin isn’t just protected from the sun’s harmful rays, but also from the dry, ‘tight’ feeling you get after swimming in the ocean or the pool.
How does summer damage your skin? Why do you think NEUTROGENA Beach Defence Sunscreen Lotion might be the perfect protection for your skin?

Sun protection is so important - especially in Oz. Our sun is brutal. Cover up, use sunscreen etc - your skin will thank you when you're older.

Though it does get used up quickly. I guess you end up using more with aerosol then other bottle. In one week, with two of us, can is pretty much empty.

I love neutrogena sunscreens, they seem to be the only ones that are not oily and don't cause breakouts

They are my favourite sunscreen brand too. I particularly like the spray-on sunscreen.

Me too Chicklet! It's great for a shoot, aim and fire approach to getting some sunscreen on my very mobile 12 year old who still wants to avoid the drama of having to put sunscreen on. She's learning though.

I really need this sunscreen. I only use Olay on my face but really need to start doing the rest of my body.

Summer damages my skin by causing more pigmentation on my face which is why I use an SPF 15 moisturiser or Sun Sense 30+ Daily Face during this time. My right (driving) arm also gets more sun tanned during this season (no tinted windows in the car) so now I resort to carrying a long sleeved blouse in the car too.
Other than I use Coles Brand SPF 30+ Sunscreen. It's cheap and it works. Now they've come out with a 50+ Sunscreen too.
