Fell asleep in the sun? Missed a spot on your back? Simply ‘forgot’ to put sunscreen on? Bet you’re regretting that now your skin is red, hot and aching.
Don’t worry, I’m not here to scold you. I understand that despite beautyheaven’s best efforts to permanently drill into everyone’s brains the importance of sunscreen, accidents can happen. But don’t turn your accident into a disaster. Save yourself all the tossing and turning in bed, painful pats on the back and uncomfortable showers by investing in an after sun product that will soothe your seething sunburn.

BEST AFTER SUN PRODUCT #2 NIVEA Sun After Sun Spray

BEST AFTER SUN PRODUCT #3 UV Triplegard Aloe Vera After Sun Soothing Gel
This super gel uses aloe vera to soothe and hydrate, green tea to reduce inflammation and vitamin E to strengthen and protect the skin. Your sunburn won’t stand a chance.
BEST AFTER SUN PRODUCT #4 AHAVA Aftersun Rehydrating Balm - Body & Face

BEST AFTER SUN PRODUCT #5 SunSense Aftersun Creme Gel
Yep, you can soothe your sunburn AND moisturise your skin in just one simple step. This crème gel easily absorbs and also helps to prevent further dehydration.
Top tip: don’t wait for your red raw skin to show up before applying after sun care. It can sometimes take a few hours for sunburn to completely appear after exposure, so it’s better to be safe than sorry and apply a treatment straight after your outing in the sun.
Have you tried any of the above products? How do you like to soothe your sunburn?

I have an Aloe Vera plant by my front door that I use when ever I get sun burnt. I just cut off a leaf and then slice it long ways in half and rub it on. I was sceptical when I first tried it I was in Darwin at a friends house with horrific sun burn and the boys told me to try and i thought they were kidding but it works great it can rub off a bit on your clothes so make sure you are not wearing white when you put it on

ASAP soothing gel is the best after sun gel as it rehydrates and absorbs into the skin so it doesn't leave that sticky residue like some other products. Plays you can also store it in the fridge so it's instant relief after a day in the sun. Another remedy I like is bathing in black tea. Sounds weird but running a bath and adding 10-15 tea bags and soaking in in it for 15-20 minutes reduces redness, any swelling and also takes away the tight feeling in your skin!

I have been diligent with sun protection so I haven't used after sun products for years.

I wish there was a product that had a bit of colour to it so you could see if you covered everywhere properly. The colour could then fade away. It would be so much easier to apply something like that to squirming children as well.

I am always so careful as I just hate being sunburnt. But if I do I have found that if I constantly apply moisturiser over the area, like I mean a lot! As soon as it is absorbed apply more, then that stops the peeling.

I use SOLARCAINE SPRAY 150 mls that you can get from Chemist Warehouse. It has a local anaesthetic and anti bacterial action. Being a spray, it does'nt hurt as much on application.

I was horribly burnt on my back as a child and have had some other bad burns since. Thankfullly as an adult I'm so much more careful! Aloe vera is amazing and any products with that as the main ingredient work really well.

I have been lucky enough not to have needed after sun care for a very long time! My mother taught me the importance of sunscreen at a very young age.

I make sure I am slathered up before going into the sun. I remember the pain from my last sun burn! But I like the look of the AHAVA one.

I don't think that you can beat pure aloe vera that you grow yourself or aloe vera gel e.g. Thursday Plantation, John Plunkett (pure aloe with just preservatives). When I was much younger and used to get lots of sunburns, I had cold baths with loads of tea bags. I think the tannins in the tea was meant to be soothing, but as it was so long ago I can't remember how effective this was.
