World Sexual Health Day: Sex Toy 101

Ladies, it’s time to talk sexual health. Yep, it’s World Sexual Health Day and at beautyheaven, we’re all for encouraging social awareness of the importance of healthy sexual practices. When it comes to ensuring your sexual wellbeing, one important thing to consider is playing it safe when buying adult products. Not all pleasure tools are made equal; thankfully, intimate lifestyle accessories brand LELO has kindly shared some tips on what to look for (and what to avoid) when window shopping:
1) Look for certifications and avoid fakes
Check the box also for the phrase ‘novelty use only’ – it’s basically the same as saying ‘we are not accountable for the safety of this product’.
2) Never, ever settle for second best
Don’t buy a cheap pleasure product because it looks like an affordable version of a more trustworthy brand. It’s just not worth the risk.
3) Keep your toys clean
Wash them before using them, store them properly, check the materials for breaks, and use anti-bacterial wipes.
4) Sharing is caring, but…
If you’re sharing toys in the heat of the moment, it’s best to cover them with a condom and replace it each time.
5) Avoid the jellies
The ‘jelly rubber’ many sex toys have been made of has been treated with one of any number of plastic softeners, or ‘phthalates’. Phthalates are potentially harmful, even carcinogenic
6) Choose silicone
Silicone is resistant to bacteria and widely used by the most reputable brands in the pleasure product industry. Smooth, comfortable for use and easy to clean, it’s generally a sign the manufacturer is doing things right.
7) Pay attention to glass and metals
While these products are excellent for cleaning, make sure any glass products are of high-quality and perfectly smooth, and be sure to avoid any metals that may cause allergic reactions.
8) Check online
Make sure you check out the website of the brand who produces your sex toys. If they haven’t invested in a website, perhaps they won’t invest in safety either.
Got all that? Great. Now for the fun part: we’ve got one set of LELO Luna Beads to give away to our readers.
Designed for both fitness and pleasure, LELO’s kegel beads help users achieve longer, stronger and more attainable orgasms when worn regularly. Sound like something you want to win? We thought so!
For your chance to win, simply tell us in the comments section of this blog, why you could use some LELO Luna Beads in the bedroom.
Competition closes: AEDT midnight Wednesday September 10 2014

This product would be attractive if I wasn't in a stable, long-term committed relationship.

I would use Lelo Luna beads because.... well. You know! In order to achieve pleasure and have fun with my partner. I actually originally felt that sex toys were a personal thing, for my own use. But I find them more fun with my partner, this way they definitely get used.

I have some cheap Ben Wa balls and the vibrations make them very enjoyable. A high quality set like these would be even more fun. Its the best way to exercise, while you are having pleasure.

I did look up this product as I've never tried any sex toys, but I'm intrigued, and would be satisfied to have a orgasm, let alone longer, stronger and more attainable orgasms - I'll road test it!

I've pretty much never even seen these types of products in 'real life' ... and not sure I even know how to use them .. so if that's not a good reason to win some and learn something new I don't know what is :-)

These LELO Luna Beads are very similar to Ben Wa balls, which, with regular use, will strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. With toned pelvic floor muscles you will get a more intense orgasm, and of course, minimise tearing and recover quicker after a childbirth too. I had 2nd-degree tearing from my first baby last year, while I recovered reasonably quick, I'd like to be more 'physically prepared' when we plan for our second baby :)

Not for me, I've got kegel balls (which I hardly ever use). They are good though, so whoever wins will be on to something good. Good luck girls! ;P

Not yet sexually active so I have no idea how the Lelo beads work haha (WHERE do you wear the beads??) but I won a vibrator once (three were being given away and what, 5 people entered?! I have no idea why more didn't enter, they feel so good), it's silicone and had quite a high RRP...glad I saved $$$ on it :)

I love how they're multi-purpose - all work (ie kegel exercises) and play in the one handy product!
