Five reasons sunglasses are Miranda's ultimate accessory

FACT: supermodel Miranda Kerr is more than just a pretty face. I mean, she clearly knows the health benefits of wearing sunglasses, because she is always wearing them. And shades that offer high UV protection are an absolute must when it comes to keeping your eyes in tip-top shape, you see. Sure, they shield her peepers from the glaring paparazzi flashes, but she knows their talents go beyond that…
After flicking through OPSM’s recent Future Vision Report, which states sunglasses are the key to decreasing your likelihood of developing future eye health issues or diseases linked to UV exposure, it got me thinking. I know I’d like to replicate Miranda Kerr’s signature beauty look (think bouncy curls, subtle hair highlights, gleaming skin and a bold lip), but maybe it’s about time we start copying her habit of always wearing protective eye wear, too…
Five reasons you need to wear sunglasses
#1: cataracts – blurriness or cloudiness in the eye – are triggered by UV exposure, and can cause blindness.
#2: prolonged exposure to UV rays over a long period of time can also cause damage to the macula lutae, the part of the eye that allows you to see clearly. The macula also acts as a natural sunscreen for your eyes by absorbing ultraviolet light, however, this does not mean your eyes are immune to UV damage, so sunglasses are a must.
#3: skin cancer is not limited to your legs, arms and back. Your eyelid is a somewhat popular place for skin cancer to form, too.
#4: although temporary, sunburn of the eye – officially called photokeratitis – is extremely painful, and can cause light sensitivity and blurred vision.
#5: the eye area is extremely delicate, and without protection from topical creams and sunglasses, can wrinkle prematurely. Large sunglasses or those with wrap-around sides are ideal for preventing the premature ageing of this area.
Now, do you need some sunglasses style inspiration to get you in the mood for donning a pair of all-important shades? Miranda Kerr has you covered. Obviously.
TIP: when purchasing sunglasses in Australia, always make sure the tag states “good UV protection”, or that the pair is classified as a category 2, 3, or 4. If not, they will not adequately absorb UV radiation.
Have you ever noticed that sunglasses are Miranda Kerr’s health and beauty essential? Did you know wearing sunglasses is seriously important for eye health? Will you be wearing them more often from now on?

I don't know why but I really never used to wear sunnies much until last year. Now I love wearing them. Love each of the shades Miranda is wearing as well! I've been looking for a pair like the ones in the last picture but in black rather than a patterned style. I love the shape of them!!

I have to admit that I have been wearing my sunnies only recently, so have to be more regular with that. We really need to wear them whenever we go out, regardless of the weather.

I have always worn sunnies whenever outside...even on those cloudy days I am the one with sunnies on. It helps being shortsighted so it's just easier to leave them on my head till I am outside. I even wear them just going to the letterbox. Must be why I don't have deep crows feet :-)

I have a serious sunglasses fetish as my eyes get very watery and weepy in bright sun, i almost always have sunflasses on no matter the weather. I always thought that reducing the sunlight to your eye area slowed the production of wrinkles as well by keeping the eye area more moisturised and less dehydrated.

Great article Cherie! I am an avid sunglass wearer as I want to protect my eyes and, like Ellelily, I also want to avoid the glare from the sun. I also have lighter coloured eyes (grey) so that is another reason why I like to make sure my eyes are protected.

I'm never without my sunnies, especially these days when I just can't be bothered with the eye makeup. Just some lippy and I'm out the door!

I have to say that Miranda looks great in each style of sunglasses. I also never go out side without my sunglasses on. I cant stand the glare of the sun in my eyes. And i know that we can get damage to our eyes from the sun and that we need to protect them. I do have abit of trouble choosing sunglasses as i have a small face. But when i find the right ones i usually buy two pairs so that i have on pair in my car. As i really hate to drive without my sunnies on
